Wrexham AFC Captain Ben Tozer Speaks Out About His Mental Health Struggles

Wrexham AFC captain Ben Tozer spoke candidly about his mental health with local radio station Calon FM.

On the show, Mindset Mondays, hosted by sisters Amy and Sarah Davies, the Dragons captain discussed his previous struggles as well as advice on how to deal with depression and anxiety.

The 33-year-old defender has been one of Phil Parkinson’s side’s most consistent performers this season, as Wrexham look to end the season on a high by regaining Football League promotion. The full video interview is available below.

“I’m a sociable person, and being around people is better for me than sitting around watching daytime TV,” Tozer explained.

I got myself into a rut and went to see a counsellor, which really helped.

“I believe I’ve gained some skill since then.” I don’t believe that mental health is about being mentally strong or mentally weak; I believe that having the ability to deal with both good and bad moments is the best way to approach it.

“It was my wife who identified it; she told me I needed to get help.” Everyone requires assistance, so I believe that being open-minded and approachable is beneficial.”
