Unai Emery Explains Morgan Sanson's Transfer Decision As Three Aston Villa Players Prepare To Depart

Morgan Sanson will be allowed to leave Aston Villa this month by head coach Unai Emery, who has struggled to earn consistent minutes on the pitch since joining from Marseille in 2021..

Sanson has started Villa’s last two games, but Emery wants to sign another midfielder this month, which would limit his chances of starting Premier League games even more. Sanson has yet to appear in a league match this season.

He played 60 minutes in Villa’s humiliating FA Cup exit at the hands of Stevenage earlier this month, scoring his first goal for the club in the first half.

Emery then brought Sanson off the bench in Villa Park’s 2-1 win over Leeds United, but he appears to have no future at the club.

“(Morgan) Sanson could also leave, but Sanson is a very good player for me,” Emery said in his pre-Southampton press conference. “He understands how we want to play and has the ability to do so.

But he needs to play in a team to be consistent, and it’s difficult to give him that here – he’s also looking for a way out.”

Sanson has started just three Premier League games this season and has played less than 400 minutes of top-flight football.

He joined the club in January 2021 for £16 million, but he appears to have no future at Villa Park.

Matteo Guendouzi is expected to cost more than £30 million, but Marseille are willing to sell the 23-year-old if their valuation is met. According to reports, the French midfielder is interested in joining Villa and reuniting with Emery after their time together at Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Marvelous Nakamba will be permitted to leave Villa this month as well. This season, the Zimbabwe international has yet to appear in the Premier League for Villa.

Danny Ings is set to join West Ham for £15 million, bolstering David Moyes’ squad ahead of a crucial match against fellow strugglers Everton this weekend..
