Darren Moore believes Steven Schumacher of Plymouth Argyle is deserving of his Manager of the Season award after Sheffield Wednesday’s manager was beaten to it.
Both were nominated for the award, along with Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, at the weekend’s EFL Awards, but it was the Pilgrims’ manager who took home the trophy as the club enters their final three games of the season on top of the table.
Moore’s Owls set a new club record by going 23 games unbeaten in League One this season, but a recent slump has seen them drop to third and on the verge of missing out on automatic promotion.
After the event, he was quick to congratulate his counterpart, but he did add that there is still plenty of football to be played to determine who finishes in the top two.
“First and foremost, congratulations to Steven Schumacher,” Moore said in an interview with The Star. “He’s had another excellent season in a row. With the team currently sitting atop League One, he is a deserving winner. So congratulations to him, but also to Kieran.
There’s still a lot of football to be played, so it’s back to the day job and on to the weekend.
Spoke to Aaron Collins last night, and he said he was surprised to even be nominated alongside Barry Bannan and Jonson Clarke-Harris at the EFL Awards – let alone win.

“It’s fantastic for me, but this nomination belongs to everyone at Sheffield Wednesday.” As manager, I am responsible for it, but everyone has contributed significantly.
Moore also congratulated his two players, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass, on their selection to the Team of the Season, expressing how much he enjoys working with them..
“For us to have two of our players in the Team of the Season shows their quality, and it’s given by your peers, so it’s a fantastic achievement,” continued the Owls manager. They both deserve it, and it’s an honor for me as a manager to be working with such a talented player.
