Lionel Messi, the forward for Paris Saint-Germain, has yet to decide on his future, with his contract expiring in June. Nonetheless, many people are voicing their opinions on the subject..
Sergio Agüero, a former Argentina teammate, predicted where the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner will play in the 2023-24 season. The former Manchester City striker invited Gerard Piqué to his Chup Chup Kings Twitch channel, where the conversation eventually led to Messi.
“I believe there is a 50% chance that Leo Messi will return to Barça,” Agüero said (via RMC Sport). “I believe Leo should retire from Barça.” Barcelona is his home, and he must complete his career here. Laporta must make an effort to reclaim Leo.”
While Agüero is not alone in his desire for Messi to return to Barcelona, the Spanish club would have to offload players in order to bring the Argentine back due to La Liga’s salary cap.
Messi reportedly wants to earn wages comparable to what Kylian Mbappé is earning on his new contract, which PSG would be foolish to pay because they could use that money to sign two or three other players for depth.
Would the veteran forward accept a significant pay cut in order to return to Barcelona? Possibly, but it will be interesting to see what Messi wants to do, as he is keen on playing another season in Europe.
