Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United legend, has chastised Arsenal fans for their disrespect for Theo Walcott during Friday’s 3-3 draw with Southampton.
Walcott, who spent 12 years with the north Londoners, put the Saints up 2-0 early on at the Emirates Stadium but refused to celebrate as a mark of respect for his former club, which the fans did not reciprocate, according to Ferdinand. “Southampton are bottom of the table, and Theo Walcott comes back and says ‘listen, I am going to slap up my old team again, they can’t deal with me,” the former United defender said on his FIVE YouTube channel..
You were making fun of Walcott. He reappears and says, “Listen, remember my name, and respect what I did for the club.” I’ll have to show you right now.’
He comes over and gives you a taste. You guys scrape it back up. Brilliant. The team is young. Arteta is correct. I enjoy seeing the spirit. However, it is another two points dropped.”
Arsenal are now only five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City in the Premier League standings, with Pep Guardiola’s side having the advantage because they have two games in hand..
To make matters even more interesting, City will host Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in what appears to be a potential title decider.
