Aaron Ramsdale believes Arsenal fans should not be concerned about Bukayo Saka’s future and believes his teammate will sign a new contract..
The England international’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in around 16 months, with Saka and the Gunners yet to agree on new terms.
Saka has been in superb form all season and was at his best again as Arsenal defeated Everton 4-0 in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old scored and assisted, bringing his season total to 10 goals and nine assists in 25 Premier League games.
Saka, who is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester City, came through the Arsenal youth system, and Ramsdale is confident that he will commit his future to the club.
“I don’t think I’d be concerned about him being here if he only had a week,” Ramsdale said.
I’d still see him here on the first day of pre-season if he had until the end of the season. I’m fairly relaxed with Bukayo; let him focus on his team and the club, and then we’ll move on.
“It is obviously not affecting him, that is why he is not rushing into anything and when it does settle, we know we have him for longer than we do at the minute..
It will be a boost for the club, but as I previously stated, he still has 18 months, two and a half years left on his contract, so I believe it will be more of a boost for him, knowing the club believes in him. Bukayo is and will remain an Arsenal player for the foreseeable future.”
With their win over Everton on Wednesday, Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League and now have a great chance of winning their first title in 20 years.
Ramsdale admits it was difficult to miss out on a top-four spot to Tottenham last season and insists that pain is motivating them this season..
Obviously, I believe the scars from last year are also motivating us.
“No one has forgotten about that and what’s happened, so that’s obviously a big driving force in this team.
“But we have experienced players who have been there and done it at multiple different Premier Leagues, Carabao Cups, FA Cups, European Championships. So some of us have been there and done it, and others are 20, 21, 22 years old, playing the best football of their lives and carrying this football team forward.”
