Michael Beale insists that he benched Allan McGregor against Dundee United for tactical reasons..
The Rangers manager named the veteran goalkeeper as a substitute, with Jon McLaughlin starting at Tannadice. Some Rangers fans have questioned McGregor’s performances this season, so Beale has decided to bring McLaughlin in for this afternoon’s Scottish Premiership clash.
But the 42-year-old insists he has nothing against McGregor and believes McLaughlin is better suited to face United. Beale believes set-pieces will be crucial, and he believes McLaughlin is a more commanding presence, praising the 35-year-old.
“I just feel like Jon is in a good place,” Beale told Sky Sports. “It’s nothing against Allan..
This game seems to suit Jon, and he’s been training hard and waiting his turn.
“I thought he played well against Ross County, so it’s time to give Jon another chance.”
Asked to expand on how facing United could suit McLaughlin, Beale explained: “Jon will be able to help us on dead balls and things like that.
“I’m expecting a game where set plays will be important.”
