Manchester City have received a cheeky month-long loan for Erling Haaland from a non-league club to keep the striker fit during the World Cup.
The 22-year-old is effectively on vacation for over a month, with the Premier League suspended while the Qatari competition continues. However, this does not mean that football has come to an end.
Non-league teams compete deep in the football pyramid, away from six-figure contracts and 60,000-seat stadiums, as Ashton United in the seventh tier demonstrates..
United issued a statement on their website announcing their intention to launch an audacious loan bid for the Norwegian international for 28 days, despite the fact that the striker’s country is not in the World Cup and Haaland is currently not playing any football until the Premier League returns on Boxing Day.
Manager Michael Clegg, a former Manchester United player, explained: “It just makes sense: City aren’t playing, and we want to help by keeping Erling fit; playing golf for six weeks makes more sense.
We believe he will be a great fit for us and will fit in well with our squad dynamic.”
Ashton United play in the Northern Premier League Premier Division at Hurst Cross, but have struggled offensively, scoring only 23 goals this season. Given his impact at City, it’s fair to say that Haaland could help boost their numbers..

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, the Leeds-born striker has scored 23 goals in 18 appearances. This includes 18 Premier League goals in 13 appearances.
While City have yet to respond to Ashton United’s bid, it’s safe to say that the Manchester minnows shouldn’t be waiting by the phone. However, if you do not purchase a ticket, you will not be eligible to win the raffle..
