Jurgen Klopp believes Darwin Nunez’s best is yet to come after another impressive performance in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Wolves on march 1 2023.
After missing the weekend’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace due to a shoulder injury, the striker returned to the Reds’ starting XI and was a threat throughout as Liverpool closed the gap on the top four in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, only a contentious VAR decision prevented him from scoring as he received a standing ovation from the Anfield crowd.
Klopp admitted that the 23-year-old is already’super important’ to the Reds as they seek to qualify for next season’s Champions League, but he believes Nunez has more to offer.
We grew into the game right away. “It’s not a game where you get a lot of chances right away,” the boss explained. “But we grew into the game, and all the boys were really involved in all the dangerous stuff and worked really hard defensively. This is how you win a football game.
He (Nunez) is making great strides. Everyone can see it. He’s a handful and a genuine threat.
The goal he’scored’ was a fantastic reaction and finish. The runs he had, one down the line and the cross doesn’t arrive, but it’s very similar to the Everton goal. He’s very good at using his speed in both directions, offensively and defensively.
He’s still a young player. There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that he will get there. But he’s already very important player to us.
