FOLARIN BALOGUN has sent a strong message to Arsenal after making Ligue 1 history with Reims thanks to his goal-scoring exploits..
Balogun has been on fire during his loan spell in France, scoring more goals than PSG superstars Neymar and Lionel Messi combined.
The striker’s success reached new heights when he set a league record with Will Still’s team.
The forward has become the youngest player since the 1960-1961 season to score at least 16 goals in Ligue 1.
Balogun reached that milestone at the age of 21 years and 252 days.
The England Under-21 international, who is also eligible for the United States and Nigeria, scored the game-winning goal for Reims in Monaco.
That is a powerful message from the youngster to the Gunners, and it may give manager Mikel Arteta pause.
Balogun is not the first loanee to stand out during Arteta’s reign; William Saliba did the same with Saint-Etienne, Nice, and Marseille in the last three years.
Saliba is now an important member of the North Londoners’ Premier League title-chasing squad, forming a solid partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes at center-back.
Balogun has only three fewer goals than PSG and Lille top scorers Kylian Mbappe and Jonathan David.
Arsenal fans took to social media to urge Arteta to keep the center-forward in mind for next season..
“Going to be a revelation in the Arsenal team next season,” one fan predicted.
“Bring him home,” said another.
Another commented, “What a season he’s having.”
