Fabrizio Romano has provided exclusive insight into recent transfer rumours linking Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves to clubs such as Newcastle United and Barcelona..
Romano explained exclusively for sportsacer in ‘the Daily Briefing’ that, despite reports at the time, Newcastle were never particularly close to signing Neves in January.
Meanwhile, Romano adds that Barcelona has discussed the Portugal international as one option, but that Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi is also a summer target.
It remains to be seen whether Neves will be a priority for Barcelona, who may prefer a top young talent in Zubimendi, who has already proven himself in La Liga.
Neves will no doubt have other suitors, but Newcastle could be a good move for the 25-year-old as he looks to advance his career, with the Magpies looking like a team on the rise under Eddie Howe.
“There were rumors about Newcastle and Ruben Neves in January as well, but it was never close in the winter transfer window,” Romano explained..
“He’s been discussed with Barcelona, but they have different summer priorities, including Martin Zubimendi, so we’ll see how they decide to proceed..
