Kyle Dempsey, 27, of Magnolia Way in Blackpool, has denied a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm..
Dempsey, a former Carlisle United player who now plays for Bolton Wanderers, was in court with his father, Michael Dempsey, 50, of Whitecroft, Maryport.
Both defendants entered not guilty pleas to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm.
On July 16, the defendants allegedly assaulted a man in Maryport.
