Barcelona will ask Sergio Busquets to clarify his future plans when he returns from the World Cup, according to Jordi Cruyff..
Busquets’ contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of the season, and he has been linked with a move to Inter Miami.
Busquets could finish his career in Major League Soccer with the team part-owned by David Beckham after 15 seasons at Camp Nou.
His long-time teammate Gerard Pique unexpectedly retired in the middle of the season, and Barcelona wants to be sure they are aware of Busquets’ next plans..
In an interview with TV3, Cruyff stated: “We’ll talk to him after the World Cup is over. He has every right to decide his own future, but the club must also plan its roster.”
Busquets, 34, remains an important figure for Barcelona and Spain, and only four teammates have played more minutes than him this season.
Since his debut in 2008, he has appeared in nearly 700 first-team games for Barcelona.
Cruyff also discussed Barcelona’s January transfer plans, stating that “it is clear that there are some positions that we can reinforce..
Spending restrictions may remain an issue; however, if Barcelona is given the green light to make a move, Cruyff stated that they will not wait..
“If there is a signing option, we know what we have to do,” he explained.
Memphis Depay, who played for the Netherlands at the World Cup, has only played 131 minutes for Barcelona this season.
He could be expendable, and with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, this could be his last chance to receive a transfer fee.
Cruyff told a Spanish television station: “We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
He was able to leave in the summer, but his departure never materialized. With [Robert] Lewandowski suspended for three games, we’ll see what happens because he could be needed if there are any injuries..
